Carlsberg Group - A new Intranet experience

Carlsberg Group is a multinational brewery. Founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen, the company’s headquarters are in Copenhagen, Denmark. This is the 3rd largest brewery in the world with +40.000 employees across more than 100 countries, with over 140 brands.


Background

As part of a larger channel optimisation project for Carlsberg Group, Open Communication Group collaborated with Corporate Affairs, and Integrated Information Technology (IIT) on creating a strategic channel approach, and platform recommendation and supported the delivery and launch of a new VIVA Connections experience integrated in Teams for +25.000 employees.

Challenges

  • How do we create better reach and more engagement from our employees on a global intranet solution

  • How do we optimise our global information- and news flows and provide a better user experience

After 3 months, Carlsberg Group reported an amazing increase in intranet usage.

50% Increase in Group news traffic

27% Increase views across the intranet

99% Increase in views on local intranet hubs

Project details

In close collaboration with IIT and Microsoft, we build a framework for the project and through our Intranet Implementation playbook we identified the working tracks and tasks needed to accelerate and complete the new VIVA Connections solution.

Track 1: Building the foundation

In the project foundation we define scope, purpose, goals, constraints, and risks to ensure successful delivery on time, within budget, and meeting organizational and employees needs.

With a comprehensive project purpose workshop, we kicked off the collaboration with IIT and Microsoft

Project Purpose: Inform, engage and connect Carlsberg employees across all markets and functions via one unified, user-friendly, interactive cross-device (mobile-friendly) platform which provides one source of truth while enabling effective cascade and impact monitoring.

In collaboration with key stakeholders in Carlsberg Group, we ensured that everyone was aligned on the purpose of the new VIVA Connections solution.

Workshop

Track 2: Creating the solution

We set a base for successful intranet implementation by aligning solution components with user needs, creating user-friendly design and establishing effective communication and content governance.

User Journey track

We focused a lot on creating and test user journeys, to ensure that the solution fits the needs of the employees

Track 3: Onwards towards launch

Our team provides daily project management support, offers expert advice on key project decisions, and acts as extra hands during busy times to ensure deadlines are met and project tracks are monitored.
